Esmond Reid appointed Jamaican High Commissioner to Nigeria
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith today announced that career diplomat in her ministry, Esmond Reid, has been appointed as Jamaica’s High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Reid succeeds outgoing High Commissioner L Ann Scott, who has returned to the ministry’s headquarters.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said that Reid will also serve as non-resident ambassador to other countries in Africa.
In welcoming Reid’s appointment, Johnson Smith said: “He has led an outstanding career in the Foreign Service over the last 28 years, with a proven track record in foreign trade policy development and negotiation as well as investment promotion. I am confident that he will continue to conduct the Government of Jamaica’s business with distinction”.
Reid said he is “honoured to be asked to represent Jamaica in this new capacity and I am committed to pursuing all opportunities to enhance cooperation at different levels, between Jamaica and the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
Reid is an International Relations and International Business Specialist with a wealth of experience in multilateral and bilateral diplomacy and trade relations.
He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC).
The career diplomat is expected to take up his duties in Abuja by March 2019.
