Wadadah face Falmouth FC in Western Confed
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions Wadadah FC host second- placed Falmouth United in a second round Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation/Charley’s JB Rum Super League Zone Two game at the UDC field on Sunday (February 3) as the race for places in the mid-season final intensifies.
With one round of matches to go after Sunday, five teams are still in contention for the two spots after Faulkland FC failed to secure their spot from Zone One last week, held goalless by out of contention Sandals South Coast.
Faulkland FC, the Zone One leaders with 18 points, have another chance to book their spot with a second win over Granville United this season and only a win can suffice for Harmony FC who are at home against Somerton FC with the latter yet to earn a point.
A point separate Wadadah FC (18) and Falmouth United (17) with dark horses Hopewell United lurking in third place on 15 points. Hopewell come up against Delveland PYC at home on Sunday.
Faulkland FC beat Granville United 2-0 in their first round meeting ending the former champion’s best ever start to a Super League season and the intention now is to complete the season sweep.
Granville United have struggled in their last three games, scoring just once and are winless in that span. They now face a Faulkland FC team that are still unbeaten all season.
Harmony FC who are coming off a win over Granville United start as favorites against the hapless Somerton FC who they beat 6-1 in the first round and could be poised to make a run for honours should Faulkland FC slip up.
The Trelawny club which made it to the semi-finals last year, are the top scoring club in the Zone with six of their 15 goals coming in one game against Somerton FC who have so far given up a league high 25 goals.
At the UDC field, Wadadah FC are hoping to avenge their first-round loss to Falmouth United that ended their perfect start. Wadadah FC have won their last three games since the start of the second round, mirroring their first round effort.
Wadadah FC have scored seven of their 13 goals in their last three games led by the league’s top scorer Kemiro James, Matthew Thorpe and Tyshan Hill.
Hopewell United’s only hope of getting into the mid-season final would be if they win and the Wadadah FC vs Falmouth United game end in a draw.
In other games, Reggae Youths take on Grand Palladium who they had forfeited points to in the first round. Grand Palladium are on nine points, five more than last placed Reggae Youths and are looking to snap a two-game losing skid.
Sandals South Coast and Lucea United meet at Crocs Lawn in Whitehouse, Westmoreland, both needing a win to stay within close proximity of the top teams.
