This is in response to the poorly reasoned article ‘Human vs human being; pear seed vs pear tree’, written by Horace Levy, who has set his sights on dehumanising first-trimester babies.

Dehumanisation is a staple of pro-abortion activists who seek hopelessly for an excuse to kill defenceless, developing children. It always leads to illogical and unscientific spectacles that boggle the mind.

Case in point, Levy argues that since many zygotes fail at implantation they cannot be alive. I dare to state the obvious that implantation does not confer life or personhood. If this were so, in vitro fertilisation would bring forth some other species. It does not.

Levy misses the basic point that at his conception was formed a genetically unique human being with bio-information that would determine how wrinkled and grey he is today. It started a process of growth that ends in his natural death.

Trying desperately to differentiate the naturally undifferentiated — a human vs a human being — he then compares a cheek cell to an embryo, as though they are the same. They certainly are not.

In invitro gametogenesis, to which Levy seems to refer, a cheek cell, diploid, may be artificially converted to a makeshift haploid cell which can be used to fertilise an egg to form an embryo. An embryo, not a cheek cell or makeshift sperm cell, is a genetically unique human being! By day 16-22, often before the mother realises she is pregnant, the heart of the little one starts to beat, but he or she was already a unique gift to the world from day one. Deliberately ending this life is irrefutably murder!
