Faulkland FC first to Western Confed Super League mid-season final

GRANVILLE, St James — Faulkland FC of St James are the first qualifiers for the mid-season final of the Jamaica Football Federation Western Confederation Charley’s JB Rum Super League after scoring two late goals in a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Granville United in their second- round game played at the Granville Community Centre on Sunday.

Faulkland FC’s sixth win of the campaign takes them to an unassailable 21 points in Zone One with one game still to be played.

Defending champions Wadadah are just a draw away from securing their place in the consolation final after beating Falmouth United 3-1 in their Zone Two game played at the UDC field, while Hopewell United took over second place after a 5-0 hammering of Delveland PYC at Orchard Community Centre.

Wadadah FC lead Zone Two with 21 points, three more than Hopewell United on 18 points, with Falmouth United a point behind in third place.

At Granville on Sunday, Oniel Pringle gave the home team the lead in the 39th minute from the penalty spot. They appeared well on their way to their first win in three games before Faulkland FC stormed back late with two goals from Shanoy Anderson to stun them and grab all three points for the second time this season.

Anderson levelled the scores in the 89th minute then scored the winner deep into time added, in the sixth minute while preserving their unbeaten run all season.

At the UDC field, two early goals from Tyshan Hill in the sixth minute and Matthew Thorpe in the 15th minute, both getting their third goal of the season, set up Wadadah FC to avenge their first-round loss to Falmouth United.

Allan Ottey pulled Falmouth United level when he scored from the penalty spot in the 54th minute as they threatened a comeback, but Kemiro James extended his league-leading tally to seven goals when he scored in the 72nd minute to restore Wadadah FC’s two-goal advantage.

Hopewell United went on a rampage at home with a 5-0 drubbing of the promoted Delveland PYC with all five goals coming in the final 29 minutes plus time added.

Delveland PYC’s defence held off the Hopewell United strikers until the 61st minute when Conrad Reid opened the scoring with his third goal of the season.

Christopher Stone made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute, Shivnarine Brown added a third in the 80th minute while Ronario Distin, three minutes into time added, and Hietolah Gardner, two minutes later, also joined the scoring list.

Harmony FC’s slim hopes of making a run at the mid-season final was dashed when they were held 0-0 at home by Somerton FC who earned their first point at the Super League level.

Harmony FC played the final five minutes of the game with 10 players after Terrence McKenzie was sent off.

Grand Palladium snapped a three-game losing skid with a 1-0 win over Reggae Youths, Tremaine Perry scoring in the 29th minute.

On Saturday, Sandals South Coast came from behind at Crocs Lawn in Whitehouse to beat Lucea FC with goals from Ron Daley in the 51st minute and Dale Brown in the 89th minute.

Chovion Anderson had given the visitors the lead in the 39th minute.
