O-Wrap: Police shoot bus driver… Woman with baby arrested at RGD… Gov’t plans construction of 17 new schools

1. Bus driver allegedly shot by police in Spalding

Residents in Spalding, located on the border of Manchester and Clarendon, are reporting that a bus driver was shot by a policeman during an altercation this morning.

2. OPM permanent secretary under fire over Ramharrack’s compensation package

The Public Accounts Committee (PAAC) of Parliament a short while ago suspended its meeting to hold an in camera session with Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Sancia Bennett Templer in regards to the compensation package, which it has been speculated that the Government paid to former Human Resource Manager for Petrojam, Yolande Ramharrack.

3. Woman arrested attempting to register baby at RGD

A woman who turned up at the Registrar General’s Department (RGD) in Twickenham Park, St Catherine attempting to register a baby was today taken into custody.

4. Curfew imposed in sections of Swallowfield, St Andrew

The police have imposed a curfew in sections of Swallowfield in St Andrew. The curfew began at 6:00 pm yesterday and will remain in effect until 6:00 pm tomorrow.

5. Gov’t moving to regularise illegal taxi operators

Transport and Mining Minister Robert Montague says the Government is moving to regularise the “robot” taxi industry by encouraging operators to register as a company with the Transport Authority (TA).

6. Suspected suicide at Savanna-la-Mar hospital

A patient of the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital in Westmoreland has reportedly committed suicide on the compound.

7. J’can High Commission urged to stop aiding deportations from UK

The Jamaican High Commission in the United Kingdom is being urged to stop aiding the deportation of people by issuing emergency travel documents to the UK’s Home Office.

8. Singer Bunny Brown passes

Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, has expressed sadness at the death of the Reggae singer Joel ‘Bunny’ Brown who passed away yesterday.

9. Gov’t plans construction of 17 new schools

Government says it will be constructing 17 new schools at locations across the island to provide adequate and comfortable infrastructure for students and teachers.

10. West Indies bowlers achieve 23-year high

West Indies captain Jason Holder and fellow fast bowler Kemar Roach have made significant strides in the latest ICC Test rankings released on Tuesday.
