Yello Media launches school recycle directory competition

THE Yello Media Group, just weeks after launching its Yello2Green recycle campaign, is targeting schools with its Yello2Green Primary/Prep School Recycle Competition, which will give the schools and students chances of winning cash prizes.

The competition encourages and challenges students and teachers to collect and turn in as many old and used directories as possible from in and around their schools, homes and communities to win prizes. Entrants from the participating schools are asked to clearly write their names, grade and school on the inside cover of the directory so they can be accurately counted.

The school that turns in the most directories will win $150,000 cash. The top student who turns in the most directories across all schools will win $50,000. And the top class across all schools will win a grand pizza party.

“We’re leveraging our islandwide directory recycle initiative as a platform to deliver a broader message of environmental responsibility encouraging students to play an active role today. In every way possible, we’re teaching them to help preserve the environment which they will be the leaders and influencers of in the future,” said Terry-Ann Burrell, marketing manager, Yello Media Group, Jamaica and The Bahamas.

“The reception from schools so far has been very good, and we anticipate that there will be a lot of excitement among students in their communities as they race to turn in as many old directories as possible,” she said.

To date, the schools that have signed up to be a part of the competition are Half-Way-Tree Primary, Mount Alvernia Preparatory, Queen’s Preparatory, Portsmouth Primary, Spanish Town Primary, St Aloysius Primary, and St Richard’s Primary.

Yello Media Group is inviting other schools that are interested to contact them as soon as possible to express their interest and confirm their participation.

The Yello2Green recycling campaign coincides with the distribution of the new 2019 Find Yello Directory to residents and businesses across the island. The directories, which are made from 100 per cent environmentally-friend ink and recyclable paper, feature a series of six covers each showcasing creative and fashionable ways to recycle and reuse everyday items like plastic bottle and tyres.

The competition ends Friday, February 15 and winners will be announced on Friday, March 1.

Yello said it will also be hosting a series of competitions on its social media platforms and in pop-up locations across the island where the public will also get to turn in their old directories to win prizes.
