O-Wrap: $10m budgeted for deportee management… 14,400 more people employed… Florida man charged with wife’s murder in St Elizabeth

1. Gov’t budgets $10m for management of deportees

The Government has budgeted a sum of $10 million to strengthen the policy, legislative and institutional framework that guides the management and treatment of involuntary returned migrants (deportees) to the island

2. ‘We are close to a solution,’ UTech president assures protesters

After a number of meetings with the Ministry of Finance in relation to an increase in subventions, President of the University of Technology Professor Stephen Vasciannie says the management team is close to a solution.

3. April sentencing for man who damaged police car in Spalding

Twenty-four-year-old Rojay Brown of Ritchies, Clarendon, is scheduled to be sentenced on April 17 for damaging a police vehicle in Spalding earlier this month.

4. 14,400 more persons employed as at October 2018 — STATIN

The total number of employed persons increased by 14,400 to 1,219,700 as at October 2018, relative to the corresponding period in 2017.

5. Firearm seized in St Andrew, man arrested

A man was taken into police custody following the seizure of a Taurus revolver on Worrel Crescent in Duhaney Park, Kingston 20 yesterday.

6. Florida man charged with wife’s murder in St Elizabeth

Detectives in St Elizabeth have charged 53-year-old Henry Topping, an analyst of a Florida address, with the murder of his wife 49-year-old Moy-Lyn Williams-Topping at her home in Seaview district, St Elizabeth.

7. Consumers encouraged abiding by motor vehicle warranty

The Consumer Affairs Commission (CAC) is advising consumers to abide by their motor-vehicle warranty to reduce unsatisfactory customer service experiences with retailers.

8. Tourism minister projects 41,000 new jobs by 2022

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, is projecting that the tourism sector will provide 41,000 new jobs by 2022.

9. Smollet exploited ‘pain, anger of racism’ with bogus attack: Chicago police

A black US TV actor staged an attack against him which exploited the “pain” of racism in a publicity stunt which sullied the reputation of America’s third-largest city, police alleged Thursday.

10. Scorpions’ debutant Fraser rocks Jaguars

Debutant Akim Fraser claimed three wickets for Jamaica Scorpions as Guyana Jaguars reached 74-3 at lunch time on day one of the eighth-round West Indies four-day cricket match at Sabina Park.
