Mamdeen sparkles with three-timer
Apprentice Christopher Mamdeen rode three winners from five rides to take the spotlight on the 10-race mid-week programme at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Mamdeens winners were highlighted by Superbolt, who won the $720,000 James B Dawes Memorial Trophy feature over 6½ furlongs (1,300m).
Superbolt got a good break into second position at the off and, after a couple of strides, the Lorne Kirlew-trained animal picked up the lead at the five-furlong (1,000m) pole and never looked back.
The five-year-old bay horse won by 6½ lengths ahead of Meet Justin (Orlando Foster) and Hologram Shadow (Reyan Lewis) in a time of 1:21.1 minutes.
The Gregory Park lad’s other winners included Axle Rod for trainer Richard Azan in the first race over 5½ furlongs (1,100m) and Winx Choice in the third race over 6½ furlongs for trainer Steven Todd.
Elsewhere on the card, the highly rated Kingsman made a strong debut in a maiden condition race also over 6½ furlongs.
Trained by Ian Parsard, and ridden by Omar Walker, Kingsman ( Discreetly Mine — Feasibility Study) won by two lengths over Extruder (Dane Nelson) in a decent 1:20.1 minutes.
Racing continues on Saturday with a 10-race programme celebrating grooms.
