Modernised immigrant visa coming
Q. I have heard about a new immigrant visa process, called the Modernised Immigrant Visa (MIV). What is it?
A. The US Department of State has implemented an online system to improve the processing of immigrant visas (IVs). Many IV cases filed in recent months will be processed in a digital format. Our goal is to make the IV application process transparent, faster, and more secure. Added features in the Consular Electronic Application Centre (CEAC) will allow you to fully manage the application process – paying fees, completing forms, uploading documents – in one convenient location. You can also use your CEAC to check the status of your case, update contact information, add/remove family members, and view instructions. Customer support from the Department of State’s National Visa Centre (NVC) will be available at nvc.state.gov/inquiry
Q: How does the electronic application process works?
The National Visa Centre (NVC) contacts IV applicants when NVC receives the petition from US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and provides them with log-in information to access the Consular Electronic Application Center (CEAC). NVC will communicate with the applicant through CEAC if there are any missing or incorrect documents. Once the application is complete, the NVC will schedule an interview and notify the applicant.
Q: Do applicants need to take any documents to the interview?
Even though all required documents are submitted online, applicants must bring the original paper versions to their interview.
