PNP’s Campbell withdraws statements made at Portland mass rally
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament for North West St Ann, Dr Dayton Campbell is withdrawing statements he made at a mass rally in Port Antonio, East Portland on Sunday, relating to the death of the late Dr Lynvale Bloomfield.
In a statement today to Political Ombudsman Donna Parchment Brown, the PNP said Campbell regretted his comments in relation to the murder of Bloomfield as they were not intended to cause offence or ascribe blame to anyone for the late MP’s murder.
“I am not aware of who is responsible for the gruesome murder of Dr Bloomfield and I was not attempting to make any allegations,” he was quoted as saying.
Campbell said his effort was to motivate the comrades to go out and work to return the now vacant seat to the PNP in the upcoming by-election.
“I regret the interpretation that has been taken and therefore withdraw the statement,” Campbell said.
