Area Code sounds off for charity
The Area Code 876 sound system recently donated sports gear and technical equipment to Bridgeport High School in Portmore, St Catherine.
Their gesture comprised football and cricket kits, sneakers for the track team, and lighting equipment for school functions. The value of the items are just under US$8,000.
“We want to make this an annual thing because this is something we hold dear to our hearts; and being a ‘sound’ from the Portmore area, we thought it was fitting to give back right in our own backyard,” said Kevin “DJ Kevin” Shaw of Area Code 876.
Shaw and fellow Area Code 876 member Damian “DJ Geldin” Douglas are past students of Bridgeport High School.
Florida-based Chauvet Lighting and Florida Sound & Lighting also contributed to the initiative.
The items were handed over at the school on March 4. Deejay Munga Honorable and members of promotions company Portmore Society, also attended.
“Munga came and gave a motivational talk to the students. He also encouraged them to stay in school and to focus on their goals,” said Shaw.
Formed in 2008, Area Code 876 operates out of Greater Portmore. Its other members are Phillip Thomas (Tony British), Bjorn Parkes (Stinga Blinga) and Jay Bentley (Jigga Management).
