Undefeated Tafari Lions roar on in St Bess Major League
FOLLOWING back-to-back 5-0 wins, former champion Tafari Lions are now sole leaders of the St Elizabeth Basil Waite Major League.
Their latest success signalled the completion of their 100 per cent win streak in the first round of competition.
On Sunday, they easily dispatched Appleton Strikers 5-0 Appleton. Mushtock Christopher and Shamar Granville led the attack with two goals a piece in the sixth and 27th and ninth and 46th minutes, respectively.
The Donovan Stone-coached Lions were hoping for a big clash between the undefeated teams, but Goshen FC spoiled the party by surprising former league leaders Vineyard FC 4-2 the day before. However, that did not prevent the Lions from roaring past Vineyard with another 5-0 drubbing last week Tuesday.
Mushtock Christopher was again on the scoresheet with a braces in the 26th and 34th minutes, after Shamar Granville opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Kristoff Murray added the others in the 76th and 77th minutes.
Tafari, which boasts several youth players including Rohane Brown of St Elizabeth Technical High School the recent national Under-17 invitee, now lead the standings with maximum 18 points.
They are followed by Goshen FC who lost only one game, going down 2-0 to Tafari with 13 points. Vineyard FC completes the top three spot with 12 points.
