Chief Justice Sykes to address nation

One year after he was appointed as Jamaica’s eighth Chief Justice, Bryan Sykes will address Jamaicans on the transformation and modernisation of the country’s court system.

His unprecedented address to the nation will take place tonight, according to a statement issued by his office in Kingston.

It said that the Chief Justice will outline his vision for the provision of world-class legal services in Jamaica and call for a strengthening of the partnership among stakeholders in the system including: judges, court staff, witnesses, jurors and attorneys-at-law, to improve the administration of justice.

The statement said that he will also outline specific measures to be undertaken to achieve the mission of the courts for a timely delivery of a high standard of justice for all, the release added.

“The judiciary of Jamaica, as a co-equal branch of government, remains committed to high ethical standards guided by the six core values of judicial conduct as outlined in the Bangalore Principles of Judicial Conduct — independence, impartiality, integrity, propriety, equality, competence and diligence. “The judiciary of Jamaica is also firm in its view that improved communication with the public and improvements in service delivery are critical to engendering public trust and confidence in the system,” the statement added.
