OBSERVER ONLINE readers respond to Ruel Reid’s resignation
KINGSTON, Jamaica — OBSERVER ONLINE readers this morning responded to news that Minister of Education, Youth and Information Senator Ruel Reid has resigned following a request by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
As the news broke, many readers commended the move by Holness saying that it shows “good leadership qualities”.
Holness disclosed this morning that he met with Reid regarding certain allegations in the public domain and in keeping with the principles of good governance requested that he submit a resignation letter which was subsequently received.
Reid has also resigned from the Senate.
“Him naw hitch iyah. Mek a did the other one dem…dem would a just move the man and out somewhere else and siddung pon the corruptiom. Big up Andrew” said one comment.
However, another user rebutted the comment, saying that Holness was slow in taking decisive action when it came to the controversy surrounding Petrojam and the eventual resignation of former Energy Minster Dr Andrew Wheatley.
Another reader said the move was a good one and will send a message to all ministers in his Cabinet.
“If only the opposition was as decisive as this PM the country would have been in a much better state. Imagine laying water pipes and not connecting them. Imagine getting funding of $4.5 billion for roadwork and stashing off $2 billion into JEEP! What happen to the other $2 billion? “Youthful exuberance is still warming his seat! Well, “run wid it” run before short pants and big house ketch him”, another user said.
Another said Reid was not the right fit for the Education Ministry.
Holness in his statement said the ministry will now fall under the temporary supervision of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), which will start its own review of the ministry and its agencies
