The Gibson-McCook Relays Organising Committee (GMROC) on Wednesday feted and presented with cheques the top performers at the 2019 staging of the event at the Hospitality Room at the National Stadium.

Chairman of the GMROC, Professor Rainford Wilks, lauded all the athletes for their exceptional performances and urged them to continue to maintain the high standards.

Wilks told the athletes that he is willing to pay good money to watch them run because of the joy it brings to see them perform.

There were a total of eight special awards handed out, seven to high schools and one to a track club.

Four records were broken and each team was presented with a cheque for $75,000 by the GMROC. This was the first year that the organising committee was paying out prize money of any kind.

The Edwin Allen Class Two Girls 4x100m relay team, which featured the outstanding Kevona Davis, clocked 44.59 on their way to winning gold.

Enid Bennett High (formerly Bog Walk High), who had the sensational Tyrice Taylor on anchor won the Boys 1600m Sprint Medley in 3:25.59.

The Queen’s School, who have been steadily on the improve, were also Medley Relay record-breakers with 4:00.83.

The other record-breakers at the meet were Calabar High, who returned to the event after a one-year hiatus. They won the 4x800m in a new time of 7:31.71.

The best performance by a track club or institution (Women) went to Sprintec Track Club and they were presented with a $75,000 cheque by First Global Bank.

The Best performance by High School Boys went to Kingston College and they were rewarded with $100,000.00 by telecommunications sponsors, Digicel.

The Best performance by High School Girls went to Edwin Allen High and they too were presented with a cheque of $100,000 by Digicel.

The Best Overall Performance at the meet went to Calabar High School for their 4x800m performance. They received a cheque of $150,000 from Digicel and the Neville Teddy McCook Trophy as well.
