Four high-powered guns seized in Salt Spring
MATTERS BAY, St James – The St James police, assisted by the army, seized four high-powered guns and 137 assorted rounds of ammunition from the tough Salt Spring community between Wednesday and yesterday.
Three of the weapons were recovered during a joint police/military cordon and search operation in the community.
There have been ongoing operations targeting gangs in Salt Spring and other volatile areas in St James.
According to commander of the St James Police Division Superintendent Vernon Ellis, during yesterday’s operations one suspect was detained for questioning for the gun find.
“We have 10 persons in custody but of the 10 none has been held in connection with the weapons, but we took them in custody during the cordon and search operations [for questioning on other matters].
“… We are now doing our investigation surrounding the weapons,” Superintendent Ellis told the Jamaica Observer.
