O-Wrap: Fire at Riverton City… Flow ready for 10-digit dialling… 7-day extension for PPV uniforms

1. Fire at Riverton City Dump

Executive Director at the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) Audley Gordon says the fire that was started at the Riverton City Landfill off Spanish Town Road in St Andrew this morning has been contained.

2. Flow ready for mandatory ten-digit dialling

Flow Jamaica says it is ready for the March 30 switch to mandatory ten-digit dialling after over a year of preparation, a public awareness campaign, and numerous technical tests.

3. Finance minister reclaims unused budget funds to meet Gov’t debts

The House of Representatives yesterday passed a third Estimates of Expenditure, in which it has utilised unused funds from the 2018/19 budget to reduce its debt and increase disaster risk contingency funding, without increasing the budget.

4. Transport ministry grants seven-day extension on uniform deadline

Minister of Transport & Mining, Robert Montague, has granted public transportation groups a seven-day extension to have hackney carriage and contract carriage operators attired in uniforms, to April 8, 2019.

5. Former St Elizabeth Councillor Shirley Myers dead at 73

Shirley Myers who served the people of Southfield, St Elizabeth as a parish councillor representing the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) between 1986 and 2012 died in Florida early Wednesday.

6. Streetlight repairs on target, JPS reports

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is reporting that it has kept its streetlight repair commitment which was made to the Government of Jamaica, in October 2018.

7. Trump tells Russia ‘to get out’ of Venezuela

US President Donald Trump demanded Wednesday that Russia drop support for Venezuela’s leader Nicolas Maduro after Moscow deployed troops and equipment to bolster the hard-left government.

8. Costa Rica defeat Reggae Boyz 1-0

Costa Rica defeated Jamaica 1-0 in their friendly international inside Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica last night.

9. Russell outshines Gayle as KKR take down Kings XI

West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell once again put his phenomenal powers on display, smashing a cameo and then snapping up a brace of wickets, to lift Kolkata Knight Riders to their second win in as many matches with a 28-run victory over Chris Gayle’s Kings XI Punjab here Wednesday.

10. Sport Ministry intensifies preparation for National Sport Museum

The Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport is continuing its preparation for the National Sport Museum by acquiring 3D scanners for digitising artefacts that will be on display in the National Sport Museum, when established.
