#Champs2019: Cbar’s Farquharson breaks 32-y-o class 1 800m record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cherokee Young of Hydel successfully defended her Class one 800m title while Calabar’s Kimar Farquharson won the boys’ event in record style on the final day of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships underway at the National Stadium.
Young produced a strong stretch run to win in 2:06.02, ahead of Petersfield’s Shaquena Foote (2:06.85) and Abigail Schaaffe (2:08.83) of St Mary High.
The boys’ event was expected to be a cracker and that it was with Farquharson winning in 1:48.67, taking down the long-standing record of 1:48.84 set in 1987 by Sherwin Burgess.
Tyrice Taylor of Enid Bennett was second in 1:48.91 with KC’s Tarees Rhoden (1:49.04) in third.
