#Champs2019: Farr upsets Taylor in boys’ Class 1 400m
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As expected Cherokee Young proved too good for the field to win the girls’ Class One 400m title, while Jeremy Farr of Wolmer’s took the boys’ event on the final day of the 109th staging of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls’ Athletic Championships underway at the National Stadium.
Young the Central Champion bided her time from lane four with a comfortable backstretch run before accelerating off the curve to pull away from the field. She stopped the clock in 52.48, winning ahead of Vere Technical’s Nickisha Pryce (53.35) who was also the Central Championships silver medallist, while Kavia Francis (53.59) of Holmwood Technical won bronze.
The boys’ event was expected to be a mouth-watering one especially given the uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Calabar’s Christopher Taylor, but Farr proved supreme in victory.
Farr easily dispatched of the field to win in a new personal best 45.65, with Taylor courageously staying on for second in 46.38. Evaldo Whitehorne also of Calabar was third in 46.54.
