TWO people have been charged in connection with the death of a man whose burnt remains were found on Rousseau Road in Kingston 5 last year.

One of the accused is a cop.

A release from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Corporate Communications Unit yesterday said that 30-year-old Junior Hayles, a police constable assigned to the Kingston East Division, has been charged with murder, while 34-year-old Nicola Montaque, a beauty therapist of Daytona in Portmore, St Catherine, has been charged with conspiracy to murder.

The two were charged on Monday.

According to reports from the Denham Town police, about 7:30 pm on July 1, 2018, residents observed tyres burning behind a church and summoned the Jamaica Fire Brigade.

The release said the firemen discovered the burnt remains during cooling down operations and alerted the police.

Post-mortem examinations revealed that the man died from a gunshot wound to the head, the release continued.

Following intensive investigation by detectives from the Kingston West Division, the police said DNA confirmed the identity of the dead man as Vince Walcott, otherwise called “Steven Chambers”, of Mount Royal Estate, Bridgeport, St Catherine. He was 33 years old.

“The case file, which included a range of forensic evidence, was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for a ruling.

The director of public prosecutions subsequently ruled that both Montaque and Hayles be charged, the release said.
