KINGSTON, Jamaica —The Ministry of Education, Youth and Information today dispatched its grief and trauma team to support staff and students at Red Hills Primary in St Andrew, following the tragic death of eight-year-old Chantae Skyers.

Minister of State Alando Terrelonge has expressed shock and sadness at the killing of Chantae who went missing last Thursday April 11 while on her way from school.

Chantae’s body was found yesterday amongst rubble in an area known as Blue Hole in Sterling castle Heights.

Terrelonge said it is extremely troubling that someone would seek to harm an innocent child

He noted that as a father, he sympathised with “the unbearable anguish that Chantae’s parents must be experiencing.”

Terrelonge said that this incident, along with several others, should leave all Jamaicans with the resolve to eliminate crime and violence from the country once and for all by speaking with the police when they see any suspicious activity.

The state minister said that it would be an insult to the life of Chantae if those who committed the crime were to live as free individuals.

Meanwhile the Ministry has indicated that it will continue its partnership with other government agencies to assist in providing safe transportation to and from school especially in rural areas.
