Tongue tie on makes the difference for God of Love
God of Love, trained by 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny, returned to the races for his fifth run on Saturday last (April 13, 2019) and summarily devastated the opposition at hand.
After suffering three defeats from four runs, God of Love took to the track a completely different animal and completed six and a half furlongs in a tidy 1:19.2.
Before Saturday’s victory God of Love’s two previous efforts were blunted by his stablemates Legality over 7 ½ furlongs and 2000 Guineas entrant Sebastian going 8 ½ furlongs while on début another 2000 Guineas participant, Father Patrick had his measure.
Following Saturday’s victory run a pleased trainer Feanny commented: “The race was a nice race that returned the measure of confidence that I had in him from the beginning. His last race was a bit disappointing but the jockey was of the view that he had swallowed his tongue as he was full of running and he just gave it up. We tied his tongue and that has worked.” Is he on his way to better things? “I believe so,” said an emphatic Feanny.
On Saturday, God of Love (Christopher Mamdeen) was quickly off the mark but took a back seat to sit off the pace in sixth position. The bay gelded son of Adore the Gold – Shanda D, however, began to take closer orders leaving the half-mile marker during which time he picked off horses to straighten for the drive ahead of the 5/2 shot Don Almighty ridden by champion jockey Anthony Thomas.
God of Love then lengthened his strides appreciably to win by 4 ½ lengths going away.
Don Almighty was second while Dane Nelson aboard the American import Dyna’s Pride started a strong run from below the distance but could finish only third, another ¾ length adrift. The top weighted Summer Sun 56.0 kg, ridden by Phillip Parchment completed the frame as a 7/1 betting chance.
