ORACABESSA High and Wolmer’s Girls’ captured the 2019 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) High School boys and girls All-Island Volleyball Championship Under-19 titles at G C Foster College in Spanish Town last week Thursday.

The Oracabessa boys defeated Camperdown High 3-0 in the final with set scores of 25-20, 25-18 and 25-20.

In the semi-finals, Oracabessa beat Wolmer’s Boys’, while Camperdown defeated Manning’s School.

Camperdown had captured the Kingston and St Andrew Boys’ Under-19 final when they defeated Wolmer’s Boys’ 3-0 in the final.

Meanwhile, defending champions Wolmer’s Girls’ retained their All-Island Championship title by defeating Knox College 3-1 in the final, with set scores of 25-11, 23-25, 25-11, 25-16.

In the semi-finals, Wolmer’s Girls’ defeated Frome Technical, while Western Zone champions Manning’s School got past Central Zone champions Knox College.

Wolmer’s Girls’, who are also the Kingston and St Andrew Under-19 champions, captured their 27th lien on the All-Island Championship title. Wolmer’s won the Kingston and St Andrew title by defeating Alpha Academy 3-1 in the final.

The top-four placing in the Boys’ All-Island Championships were as follows: Champions Oracabessa, Camperdown; runners-up, Wolmer’s Boys’ and Manning’s School.

Wolmer’s Girls’ topped the Girls’ All-Island Championship from Knox College, Manning’s School and Frome Technical.

Manning’s School won the Western Zone after defeating Frome Technical 3-2 in the boys’ category and 3-0 in the girls’ category.

In the Central Zone finals, Oracabessa defeated St Jago 3-0 in the boys’ section, while Knox College tagged St Jago High 3-0 in the girls’ category.

Oracabessa High and Wolmer’s Girls’ dominated the individual awards. Oracabessa won five of the individual awards, while Wolmer’s captured seven awards.

Marzon Morgan from Oracabessa and Bethany Dean from Wolmer’s Girls’ were voted the most valuable player (MVP) for their respective leagues.

Morgan won the best setter and best server awards in the boys’ category, while Dean walked away with the best server and best setter awards in the girls’ section.

Other individual awards in the boys’ section went to Javin Smith from Oracabessa High, who was the best blocker, Sheldon Clarke from Oracabessa, Rashoy McFarlane from Manning’s School, the best receiver, and Dantae Smith from Camperdown High, the best attacker.

Damion Gooden from Hillel Academy was named Coach of the Year.

The other awards in the girls’ category went to Daja McIntosh from Wolmer’s Girls’ who was the best blocker, Gabrielle Findlay for being the best receiver and best defender, and Mikayla McFarlane, who was the best attacker.

Camperdown High were the Kingston and St Andrew zone champions; Manning’s School were the Western champions, and Oracabessa, the Central champions.

In the girls’ section, Wolmer’s won the Kingston and St Andrew zone; Manning’s School, the Western champions, and Knox College, the Central champions.
