Phase 3 offers scholarships, internships to CARIMAC
Phase 3 Productions has signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Caribbean Institute of Media & Communication (CARIMAC) to include bursaries and on-the-job training at the television and multimedia production company.
Under the MOU, effective 2019-2023, $100,000 will be awarded each year to an outstanding CARIMAC undergraduate who will experience on-the-job training at Phase 3 Productions for one month.
CEO Delano Forbes noted that the MOU is one of several “giving back” activities in which the company, which is now celebrating its 35th year of operation in Jamaica, is engaging this year.
This five-year Phase Three/CARIMAC MOU, with its internship scholarship, is one of several ‘Giving Back’ activities by the company in celebration of its 35th anniversary, he explained.
“Over this time (Phase 3) has trained hundreds of interns from local and overseas universities and other Jamaican institutions,” Forbes said.
“Phase 3 is committed to providing internship opportunities and training and over recent weeks we have hosted industry practitioners at three training workshops on lighting and one on LED screen repair at our newly opened training & inventory facility,” he added.
Director of CARIMAC Dr Livingston White stressed the value of work experience and opportunities for direct engagement with the industry for students of media and communication, particularly those pursuing the BFA in Film Production.
“A key element of our undergraduate degree programmes is an internship, where students apply knowledge gained in the classroom to real-life situations,” he said.
