Best New Product 2019 Nominee: The Jamaican Peanut Butter factory
We made these products because… we saw that there was not a local peanut butter on the market. The Jamaican peanut also has a very unique flavour. It is sweet. This combined with the power of the Jamaican brand, it was hard to resist.
Our major challenge right now is… sourcing a consistent supply of peanuts. The price has been all over the map since we started. We are working to form relationships with local farmers at a price that works for both parties.
The products became available to the public in… February 2018 in select stores.
And are available at… Select Hi-Lo, Loshusan, Sovereign, General Foods, John R Wong and specialty stores across the island.
The response to the product has been… phenomenal. We are bringing on new stores all the time and have started shipping to the US. We have done very little promotion on our end.
Our first breakthrough came when… we made our first jar! We said wow!
Jamaicans should support our products because… this is the epitome of locally sourced value-added food product; 99 per cent of our ingredients is locally sourced. Everything but the sea salt. We feel that in order to be authentic to the Jamaican brand it needs to be sourced as much as possible from local ingredients. We also want to make the best, of course.
