Catherine Hall All-stars seek second win in WBA Elite League
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Defending champions Catherine Hall All-stars will go after a second win in the Western Basketball Association Elite League today, when they take on Sav-Elite Titans at the Montego Bay Cricket Club, starting at 7:00 pm.
All-stars got off to a winning start edging promoted Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors by a single point, 73-72, on the opening day, and will be hoping for an easier win today to join Granville Jaguars and Cricket Club Knights on two wins each.
On Saturday, former champions Granville Jaguars and last season’s beaten finalists Cricket Club Knights made it two wins in a row, after big wins over Lucea Flames and Cornwall Courts Chargers, respectively.
Granville Jaguars beat Lucea Flames by 20 points 76-56 after a slow start, while Cricket Club Knights had a big 31 points, 89-58, spanking of Cornwall Courts, who led after the first quarter.
Lucea Flames led 14-9 after the first quarter, before Granville Jaguars got into a rhythm in the second quarter and took over the lead 34-22, and ran away for the win, extending their margin to 19 points, 55-36, after the third quarter.
Granville’s player/coach Dave Black led all scorers with 29 points, and had eight rebounds, Otis Foster scored 13 points, Shaqueal Benti scored 12 points, while David Gordon had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Julian Walker was the only Lucea Flames player to score in double digits with 24 points along with nine rebounds.
Antonio Spence and Oshane Mothersill both scored double-doubles for Cricket Club Knights in their big win as despite trailing by a point 18-19 after the first quarter, took a big 43-29 lead into the half-time and were up 65-40 at the end of the third quarter.
Spence scored 13 points and had 11 rebounds, Mothersill scored 10 points and had 11 rebounds, Daniel Malcolm scored 17 points to lead all scorers, Jhaun Bryan scored 16 points and Jermaine Allwood scored 13 points for the winners.
Jason Blake scored 16 points to lead Cornwall Courts, while Giovanni Bailey scored 14 points.
