Encouraging first win by by Glitter River
THREE-year-old chestnut gelding, Glitter River after finishing second on his two previous starts, went one better on Easter Monday (April 22) in a dominating 7 ½ length win in a maiden special weight event over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m).
Glitter River, who was administrated first-time Lasix, turned on the pressure in deep stretch to beat Fresh Cash (Omar Walker) and first timer, Berry Boy (Christopher Mamdeen) in a final time of 1:21.1.
The son of Deputy Glitters made his début on March 23, 2019, and was beaten 5 ½ lengths by Awesome Aviator over six furlongs but on that occasion, it was obvious that Glitter River was running green in deep stretch.
His second outing on April 13, 2019, was much better although he was held by 1 ¾ lengths by Prince Charles over five and -a-half furlongs (1,100m). Then Glitter River was seen making strong headway in deep stretch, suggesting that he would prefer it a little longer.
So, said so done on Monday going a furlong (200m) longer as Glitter River, ridden by apprentice Reyan Lewis, shot to the lead over Schlesinger (Daniel Satchell) and Galway Bay (Tevin Foster) in the early part of the race.
Glitter River maintained his steady gallop until leaving the half-mile and approaching the home bend when he extended his lead.
Turning for home unchallenged, Glitter River ran out an easy winner.
“Can’t say it was a big performance but it was good nonetheless. We are just going to see what we get out of him because he has good potential and we have good expectations for him.
“Now we sit and watch, taking our time with him and see what is next. But it is just a day by day thing for him,” trainer Patrick Lynch said.
