From trash to treasure
ARTIST Lisa Lej recently concluded an exhibition over the Easter weekend at Match Resort Conference Centre, Dolphin Bay Port Antonio under the theme: ‘Trash to Treasure’.
Lej’s displays were accompanied by several from artists Mark Bell, Hopeton Cargill, Steve Cunningham, and Marguerite Gauron.
The pieces, Lej explained, were made from waste material, including paper, plastics, glass, fishing line, and copper wire, among others.
Lej told the Jamaica Observer North & East that some of the material came from waste pulled from the ocean.
“I love the ocean and when I go to the beach I collect different material, as I strongly believe in culture and protecting the environment. A culture of health as art is my therapy. I use recycled materials in the creation of my art. It is healing to humanity as well as the environment, which has inspired me to an initiative of upcycled art. This is towards education and uplifting the spirits of the youth with creative expressions voluntarily, as a movement towards becoming the positive change for the future,” she said.
