Kemoy Campbell runs again
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Olympian and National Record Holder Kemoy Campbell says that he ran for the first time today since he collapsed at the Millrose Games in New York in February.
“I ran today for the first time in a while and even though it was so that I caught my flight it felt Goooood,” he posted to his Instagram and Twitter pages this evening.
The athlete, who was functioning as a pacesetter in the 3000 metre on Saturday, February 10 when he collapsed, captioned today’s progress on Instagram as “small victories!!!!!! #thebeginning.”
The athlete has been getting an outpouring of support from well-wishers here and in the Diaspora since his collapse.
Days after the incident, a GoFundme campaign was launched to assist with his medical expenses.
The campaign has so far raised US$63,271 of the US$200,000 target and is still ongoing.
The Government, through Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange also met with the athlete’s family and management and arrangements were said to have been made to assist with his medical expenses.
Preceding that announcement, President of Reebok, Matt O’Toole told Sports Illustrated that the sportswear company will be donating US$50,000 to assist with Campbell’s medical expenses.
