CanEx to host ‘Capital Meets Cannabis’ seminars in Barbados, Trinidad and Cayman
CanEx Jamaica Business Conference and Expo will be moving across the Caribbean where it is scheduled to stage a series of cannabis seminars in Barbados, Trinidad &Tobago and the Cayman Islands between May 14 and May 23.
According to founder of Canex, Douglas Gordon, the series of seminars, to be held under the theme: “Cannabis Meets Capital”, will be hosted at the Courtyard by Marriott in Barbados on May 14; Hyatt in Trinidad and Tobago on May 16, and the Westin in Cayman Islands on May 23.
The events will bring together accredited investors, bankers, lawyers, policymakers and health care professionals to offer an overview of the legal cannabis industry and specifically to speak to investment opportunities.
It will also feature a range of subject matter oriented toward exposing accredited investors to considering investments directly into businesses, equities and/or into funds that specialise in the industry.
Each investment summit will include a keynote presentation, business pitches from screened companies seeking to raise capital and a panel discussion with seasoned investors speaking to the global opportunities and investor considerations for placing funds in the industry.
Canopy chairman and Co-CEO, Bruce Linton, will deliver the keynote address at Cayman Islands leg of the event.
Gordon underscored the need for prospective investors to be armed with knowledge of the medical cannabis sector.
“The precursor for a successful legal cannabis industry is a full understanding of the tremendous health and economic benefits that the industry can bring to any developing nation. We are bringing together a cross section of experts and operators at the highest levels of the industry who can provide a fulsome understanding of the opportunities that are inherent in the industry, as well as speak to the key challenges that need to be considered to create a successful industry. We have experts from the US and Canada, South America and the Caribbean, who can speak to practical, operational considerations, not theory, that will provide a sound basis for understanding the industry and its potential,” Gordon reasoned.
The founder of the annual CanEx Jamaica Business Conference and Expo that takes place each September, stated that despite the growing success of his conference in Jamaica, his organisation feels a strong responsibility to leverage their relationships to bring greater awareness and opportunity throughout the region.
The Investment Summit is also ideal for individuals interested in learning about the opportunities and challenges from some of the leaders in the industry and hear specific investment ideas being pitched. Some of those people expected to attend include: accredited retail investors, institutional investors, private wealth managers, entrepreneurs, attorneys, health care practitioners and policymakers.
John McMullen, president of LGC Capital, who will be present at all three events, expressed delight to be participating in the event.
“We are delighted to participate in an event of this nature. CanEx has done a first-class job with their conference and this is a fantastic initiative to broaden the legal market in the Caribbean. We look forward to sharing with the audiences in Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago and the Cayman Islands, some of our cannabis investment experience as we explore opportunities to expand in the region,” McMullen said.
The CanEx Jamaica Business Conference and Expo is a business-to-business (B2B) conference that brings together cannabis industry professionals from across the globe.
