Saratoga Sight to set record straight in Overnight Allowance event
After two consecutive unsuccessful tries at the Overnight Allowance level, the Gary Subratie-trained Saratoga Sight should now get things right and show rivals the way home at this level, the top-rated event on the 13-race programme at Caymanas Park today.
Saratoga Sight, after being beaten by Superluminal at the Open Allowance level on March 9, stepped down to the Overnight Allowance three weeks later and was defeated by Run Thatcher Run and Master of Hall over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m).
The American-bred chestnut horse then returned on April 4 and was again beaten, 4 ¼ lengths in second place to Master of Hall at one mile (1,600m) in a blistering 1:37.0 in which he pulled up in 1:38.0. Now going 7 furlongs (1,400m) here which he should be comfortable at, Saratoga Sight is going to be hard to deny a second win on local soil.
It should not be as easy as one, two, three for Saratoga Sight as in the line-zup of 16 runners there are horses capable enough to take this $1 million purse. The likes of My Sister, Sotomayor and Lottery Ticket all possess the credentials for top honours here, while Royal Vibes, Bruce Wayne, My Elle Belle, Uncle Frank and Winter Is Coming are going to play their part in this one.
The three-year-olds and upward event is positioned as the night pan with a post of 6:00 pm. First race has a post time of 11:00 am.
The run behind Master of Hall on April 4 is more than enough to suggest that Saratoga Sight is fit and ready to grace the winners’ enclosure here. Saratoga Sight should be close to the pace leaving the half-mile (800m) marker before kicking for home in deep stretch. Apprentice Tevin Foster has been called up to right the Tapit offspring at 54.0kgs (119 lbs).
The very fit and consistent My Sister, a stable companion of Saratoga Sight, has been given every opportunity to win this one as well. My Sister has already won over this distance and that was in November of last year, she powered home in a time of 1:26.4 and that should be good enough here.
My Sister has raced at this level five times with only one victory and although that was over the five-straight (1,000m) course, the roan filly has the class to figure here. Champion jockey Anthony Thomas will ride.
With two runs this season so far, grey horse Sotomayor, from the stables of leading trainer Anthony Nunes, should now be cherry ripe for this and is not to be denied a chance here.
Sotomayor has promised a lot but failed to produce those magical efforts at times. But he is timely getting his act together and at age five, Sotomayor should now show his true potential.
Sotomayor has been training well and although he finishes behind Saratoga Sight twice this season, he still can turn the tables here. Robert Halledeen rides.
Although she was scratched out of her last race after being deemed lame, Lottery Ticket is going to be a dangerous contender here. After finishing second by a length to Commander Two over 7 furlongs in June of last year, Lottery Ticket got injured.
She returned nine months later for her first run of the season on March 16 over five furlongs on the round course and finished in sixth position by 5 ¾ lengths — a race won by Ras Emanuel beating My Sister. Not really a sprinter but Lottery Ticket was brought back to the quick dash races, this time over the straight and she came with a strong inside the final furlong only to be outdone by KD Flyer in 59.3 by a length.
That run suggested that she is rounding into form and might be back to herself now. Lottery Ticket’s final rattle in deep stretch could prove hard to withstand here. Omar Walker is asked to do riding honours.
