LIKE fine wine, Retro Flexx gets better with each serving of the ’80s and ’90s music.

The party’s seventh staging was held at Mas Camp in Kingston recently.

“We went for the top in terms of deejays. We went for Kurt Riley, we went for [ZJ] Ice, we went for Alpachino, and we went for Arif Cooper; so we went for the best of the best. We went extremely hard on the promotions… We spared nothing to do what we need to do to get the brand out there,” event promoter Sheldon McIntosh told the Jamaica Observer.

Despite an oldies affair, Retro Flexx had massive turnout of young people in attendance.

“We target mature and young persons and, funny enough, a lot of young persons are here also. A lot of young persons like the retro vibe, you know,” he said.

The deejays kept the turntables going with popular hits from previous decades, which were well received by the crowd.

Some partygoers expressed their satisfaction.

“I am a regular attendee. I love the music, I love to dance and I plan to come back,” said hospital attendant Sherifer Rose.

Business support officer, Vearle Providence from London, England, said she was seeking a place to dance and Retro Flexx was ideal.

The event’s promoters also boasted about the growth of their event over the years.

“Retro Flexx started in 2012. We started at Waterfalls [in Kingston] and we grew until we outgrew the venue. We decided to move to Mas Camp on this staging. The night is not finished yet but, by my standards, I am pleased thus far,” McIntosh said.

“We normally do it between two to three times per year. We promote another event by the name of Decades and Energy Fridays, but Retro Flexx is really the ‘big boy’. Decades might just pop up on them [patrons], Retro Flexx normally comes back around November,” McIntosh continued.
