GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Cricket West Indies (CWI) p resident Ricky Skerritt has given his assurance that Guyana will host matches when India tours the Caribbean in August.

Skerritt made the promise to Guyana’s Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo during a recent visit to the country to discuss matters of mutual interest towards the development and growth of West Indies Cricket.

The Indian team is scheduled to tour the West Indies in August, following the ICC Cricket World Cup which will commence next week in England and finish on July 14.

“I came here to pay tribute to your long-standing cricket interest, and you have always been a big cricket supporter,” Skerritt said.

“Cricket is so powerful, cricket brings people together.”

He explained that he will be engaging the various cricket stakeholders in Guyana on the way forward for cricket governance in the country.

The two leaders also discussed matters related to the hosting of the Regional Under-19 tour.

In congratulating Skerritt on his new appointment as CWI president, Nagamootoo highlighted that Guyanese people were passionate and unwavering fans of West Indies cricket, who look forward to annual international cricket.

He assured Skerritt of the Government’s commitment towards the development and growth of cricket in both Guyana and the Caribbean.

The Prime Minister also revealed that Government would be shortly embarking on a multi-hundred-million-dollar programme to upgrade dozens of grounds all across the country, which will be used by various sports, most especially cricket, the national sport.

Accompanying Skerritt on the tour were CWI’s Chief Executive officer Jonny Grave and CWI’s logistics manager, Fawaaz Baksh, while Nagamootoo’s team comprised the director of Public Information, Imran Khan and coordinator of the Governance Office at the Office of the Prime Minister, Tamara Khan.
