The time is nigh – it’s Liverpool against Tottenham in Champions League final
SPAIN’S dominance comes to an end in in what is sure to be spectacular fashion as Tottenham Hotspurs and Liverpool square off for the title of the best club in Europe and, by extension, the world.
This will be the first time since Manchester United beat Chelsea in the 2008 Champions League final that two English teams are featuring in the glittery showpiece in Madrid.
EVENT # 1 – THE 2019 CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
Tottenham and Liverpool will meet in an all-English Champions League final in the Wanda Metropolitano stadium in the Spanish capital tomorrow (Saturday), with Tottenham looking to claim their first European trophy in 35 years.
The north London club won the UEFA Cup in 1984 and are now hoping to end an amazing season by securing the biggest accolade in club football.
The Premier League rivals were both staring down the barrel of semi-finals exits, but Liverpool and Tottenham shocked Barcelona and Ajax respectively, with incredible comeback victories.
Having lost the first leg of their semi-finals 0-3 away to Barcelona, Liverpool completely trampled Lionel and company at Anfield by dispatching them 4-0 while kicking them out of the competition.
As for Tottenham, they trailed Ajax 0-3 on aggregate at half-time of their second leg in Amsterdam — but a stunning second half hat-trick from little-known Brazilian Lucas Moura — including a 96th –—minute winner, sent Spurs through to this season’s finale.
Tottenham have never won the Champions League before and is making its first appearance in the final.
By contrast, Liverpool has won five Champions League titles to date, the most among English sides. However, it’s been nearly 15 years since their last title (2005) and the other four came from 1977 to 1984. As a matter of fact, the Reds aren’t favoured to lift their 6th title because of ancient history, they are favoured because they have been historically good this year.
Their +67-goal difference is the fourth best in the history of the Premier League, while Tottenham finished fourth in the Premier League with a +28-goal difference. This is a completely different competition, however, Liverpool won both meetings in the Premier League this season 2-1.
The betting tip. Liverpool win and both teams to score
