Everyone’s A Winner/Best Dressed Chicken Race Day on tomorrow
THE ninth annual staging of the Everyone’s A Winner/The Best Dressed Chicken Race Day (10K, 5K Run, 5K Walk and 5K Stroller and Walk Race) has attracted almost 2,500 participants and promises to be a good Father’s Day exercise for the men at Hope Gardens at 6:00 am tomorrow.
According to Alfred “Frano” Francis, race director of Running Events, the event is expected to attract in the region of 2,500 participants, and both the men’s and women’s 10K defending champions are also expected to defend their respective titles.
He said a 3K run race has been introduced to encourage fathers to run with their children, an addition to the other established races.
“Everyone’s A Winner race was a part of the Jamaica Moves Corporate Challenge, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, which had corporate teams competing in the races. The Jamaica Moves programme encourages organisations to become ambassadors, by promoting healthy lifestyle habits amongst their employees,” Francis said.
At the awards ceremony at the completion of the races, each of the first 2,000 finishers across all events will receive a commemorative medal. Also, the Roy Thomas Trophy, named after the veteran road runner, will once again be presented to the 10K run team champions.
In addition, there will be a Kiddies’ Village with such activities as face painting and train, bounce-about, merry-go-round and dilly-dally rides, while a post-event breakfast will be prepared by Pink Apron, featuring Best Dressed Chicken products, as well as samplings by Reggae Jammin. The participants will also be offered massages and health checks, and there will be special treats for the fathers at the event.
Loraine Kemble, brand manager of Best Dressed Chicken, said this will be a unique day for the entire family, offering a healthy balance between the body and soul.
She said this year the event will benefit the Jamaica Association of the Deaf, and the Diabetes Association of Jamaica, with members of both entities volunteering their services to ensure a memorable event for all the participants.
The event also promises to be with a difference, featuring a fun-filled mix of walk, run, food and entertainment for the entire family with popular performers Alaine, Rondell Positive, God Head and Pastor Stephen Blake on show.
