O-Wrap: J’can held with drugs in T&T… Dacres sets new NR… Bangladesh beat Windies

1. J’can man, T&T cop held with drugs at Piarco airport

A Jamaican man and a Trinidadian policewoman were held with narcotics at the Piarco International Airport on Saturday.

2. UWI Cave Hill campus to train Ghanaian doctors

The University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill campus has entered into an agreement with the University of Ghana (UG), for students to study medicine in the Caribbean.

3. Tufton lauds SRHA initiative to convert mini-buses into ambulances

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Christopher Tufton is lauding the innovative initiative of the Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA) to convert and customise three new mini-buses into ambulances, valued at more than $30 million.

4. Road fatalities surpass 200 mark

More than 200 people have died in road crashes since the start of the year, according to statistics released today by the Road Safety Unit (RSU) in the Ministry of Transport and Mining.

5. SLB to fund short certification courses

Executive Director of The Students’ Loan Bureau (SLB) Monica Brown says a submission has been made to the Board for approval for the funding of short certification courses.

6. PM assures Diaspora of significant investment in national security

Prime Minister Andrew Holness is assuring Jamaicans living abroad that the Government is taking national security seriously, with significant investments made over the last two years to strengthen the country’s security architecture.

7. Fedrick Dacres sets new national record in men’s discus

Jamaica’s Fedrick Dacres put himself in select company on Sunday after he smashed his one-year-old National Record in the discus throw with a monster 70.78m throw to win the event at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Rabat, Morocco.

8. Parish courts exceed case clearance-benchmark in first quarter 2019

The Court Management Services (CMS) is reporting that all parish courts have for the first time, since the collection of statistical data on court performance, exceeded the international benchmark relating to the case clearance rate.

9. Grange hails Fab5’s Conroy Cooper

Minister of the Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange has expressed sadness at the passing of Conroy Cooper, the founder of Fab 5 band.

10. Bangladesh beat West Indies by seven wickets

Bangladesh powered to the second highest run chase in World Cup history as Shakib Al Hasan’s brilliant century clinched a memorable seven-wicket win over the West Indies on Monday.
