Metry Seaga pleased with tenure as JMEA president
Metry Seaga, the immediate past president of the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA), is satisfied with the work that he did during his time as head of the organisation.
In an interview with the Business Observer, immediately after demitting office recently, Seaga, who is the managing director of Jamaica Fibreglass Products, posited that of all his accomplishments during his tenure, he is most proud to have overseen the merger of the Jamaica Manufacturers Association (JMA) and Jamaica Exporters Association (JEA) into the powerhouse of the JMEA.
He was also proud that the organisation was able to “secure financing for their membership at 4.75 per cent, which was a major deal”.
Among other significant accomplishments he shared were “getting factory space at concessionary rates for members and making significant headway with the change of procurement policy to ensure that the government supports local products when and where possible”.
As to the future of the JMEA, Seaga was very clear.
“It is my hope that the JMEA will continue to be a beacon for other associations to emulate, especially by virtue of the way that they vociferously advocate for their members.”
His advice and encouragement to his successor, Richard Pandohie, is to “stay true to the cause, ensure that members are always placed first and never to relent but always keep pressing forward”.
Pandohie was elected unopposed at the JMEA’s annual general meeting last week by members of the association.
Personally, Seaga informed that he will be spending more time catching up with the operations of his personal business.
Seaga remains as chairman of Jamaica Special Economic Zone Authority, deputy chairman of Jamaica Promotions Corporation (JAMPRO) and chairman of Jamaica Productivity Centre (JPC).
