The National Democratic Movement (NDM) is expressing deep sadness at the passing of founding general secretary and co-conceptualiser, Brascoe Lee.Lee died yesterday morning after a brief illness.

3. Nearly 5,000 join private security firms in 2018 despite pay issues

Despite growing concern over the working conditions of private security guards in Jamaica, the sector was able to recruit 4,824 new employees in 2018.

If all goes as planned, Jamaica will have a third political party contesting the next general election, which is constitutionally due in 2021.

5. Green announces low EXIM Bank interest rates for MSME manufacturers

Micro, small and medium-sized (MSMEs) manufacturers will soon be able to benefit from new a loan facility offered by the National Export-Import (EXIM) Bank of Jamaica at an interest rate of 4.75 per cent.

6. Attorney displeased with suggested facility for relocation of alleged rogue cop

The attorney representing one of the police officers charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Chedwin Park, St Catherine in April, is not pleased with the location that was suggested for her client to be kept.

7. West Indies beat Afghanistan by 23 runs in Cricket World Cup

West Indies beat Afghanistan by 23 runs in the final group match for both sides at the Cricket World Cup on Thursday.

8. Man pleads guilty to cocaine trafficking

A man, who was held with $1.1 million worth of cocaine in his vehicle earlier this year, pleaded guilty possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and trafficking cocaine in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday.

9. Crime fight getting DNA boost

Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang says the Institute of Forensic Science and Legal Medicine (IFSLM) is undergoing major technological and infrastructural upgrades that will expedite the crime solving process.

10. At least five dead following Haiti downpour

At least five people were killed and three are missing in Haiti after a torrential downpour buffeted the capital of Port-au-Prince, the country’s civil protection agency said Wednesday.
