Supreme Soul is not an easy horse to groom — Adrian Taylor
Adrian Taylor is one of the proudest horsemen alive on Planet Earth after Supreme Soul, the horse he grooms, won the Jamaica Derby, sponsored by Boom, for its 99th running.
Supreme Soul, a three-year-old chestnut colt by Soul Warrior – Beware Baby, in winning the Derby, positioned himself with a chance to become a Triple Crown winner, an accolade that has left Taylor ecstatic.
“This has been a glorious year for me so far with Supreme Soul,” he told The Supreme Racing Guide afterwards and continued, “but this is not the end as the fight for the prime goal in the three-year-old season continues with the tail end run for the Jamaica St Leger still to be conquered within a month’s time.”
“It is a very special moment and I must give thanks to the way things have turned out as there were sleepless nights with planning and sticking to my work, as it is not an easy job as this is not an easy horse to take care of.
“But it was a family affair from all of us to keep up, doing the right thing including jockey Shane Ellis, trainer ‘Baba’ Nunes, and mi bredrin grooms dem, as well as, supporting family members, and friends to realise this moment,” he stated with passion lit in his eyes.
As to the upcoming final race in the Triple Crown series, the St Leger, Taylor was very clear.
“This is the third step and the pressure is there. First, it was the 2000 Guineas, then the Governor’s Cup and now the Derby as the Triple Crown is coming with St Leger to be run at the end of July. Up to this point, he ( Supreme Soul) has proven himself to be top of the class by turning back all comers with 126 lbs.
“It was like taking candy from a baby but it all depended on the hard work in the mornings and evenings with 100 per cent concentration to get things right as, let me repeat, Supreme Soul is not the easiest horse to groom,” Taylor reinforced.
