‘LaLaLa’ now singing, dancing to the right tune
LaLala Bamba, after a long wait, now appears to be finally getting his act together.
This late-developing bay colt by Soul Warrior – Sysi, placed one, but a somewhat assured hoof on the dance floor by logging a maiden win on his third attempt on Saturday last, July 6, 2019.
Prepared for racing by trainer Spencer Chung for owner/breeder Robert F Chung and WP Vincent Chung,
LaLaLa Bamba acquitted himself in a capable manner as a 6-1 chance by winning the three-year-old maiden special weight contest, covering the 1,000 metres run over the straight course in a decent time of 1:01.
Staying with the pack for most of the way, LaLaLa Bamba started to emerge in the reckoning when passing the dummy rails on the far side from barrier number nine.
Jockey Aaron Chatrie began to inch LaLaLa Bamba forward, but had to give him his reins to go on to win the event by half a length in the end, as the long-time 5/2 leader Celebration, with Reyan Lewis, looked threatening to go all the way. First-timer Livi’s Outrageous, the starting 4/5 favourite saddled by trainer Dwight Chen for the S&S Camp, was third with Raddesh Roman in the saddle.
Trainer Chung, talking with the Supreme Racing Guide, explained his satisfaction with LaLaLa Bamba opening his account, albeit late in the season.
“ LaLaLa Bamba is a good-sized horse but a late-developing three-year-old who is late for the Classic races.
“Part of the trouble too is that he was giving a lot of problems in his schooling, and we had to geld him, so he had a couple of setbacks in his career.
“He had a fair showing on his debut in early June but was stretched out a little a few weeks later, but clearly demonstrated that he was not yet ready.
“So, we will confine him to sprinting for now and see how he develops. We will just take our time and see how he comes along with training, but maybe if he had developed earlier he would have been in the Classics.
“That is how it is, LaLaLa Bamba is just a late developer,” Chung expressed while showing his happiness that LaLaLa Bamba had finally won a race.
