Zone G take spotlight in daCosta Cup today
CHRISTIANA, Manchester — The clash between Holmwood Technical and Spalding High will be the featured game today as the battle for Zone G supremacy continues with three games in the ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup football competition.
Alston High, Holmwood Technical, and Knox College are all tied on 10 points, separated only by tie breakers, while Spalding High are one point back, as Zone G continues its recent reputation for being competitive with the race for places in the second round having gone to the final day the last two years.
Christiana High and Spalding High were the teams that advanced from the zone last year.
Alston High, who lead on more goals over Holmwood Technical, both with a goal difference of four, will take on Roger Clarke, who have lost all five games played so far while Knox College will host Christiana High.
In the first round, Holmwood Technical extended their unbeaten run against Spalding High to six games, winning 2-0; Alston High beat Roger Clarke by the same score, while Knox had taken a point in a 0-0 draw at Christiana who are second to last with four points.
Holmwood Technical are coming off a 1-2 loss at home to Knox on Saturday and will be hoping to rebound today to stay in the chase knowing that a loss would see Spalding leapfrogging them into the top three.
Knox College’s win over Christiana High had snapped a four-game winless run, and they will hope to sweep the season series and remain in the race for a second round spot.
