Trainer Ian Parsard, jockey Dane Dawkins combine for double
The combination of trainer Ian Parsard and jockey Dane Dawkins posted a working double on the 11-race programme. The duo win opened the programme with Coco Chanel and won the very next race with Classy Miss. Coco Chanel (Casual Trick – Wagon Wheel) was a lengthand- a-half winner in the maiden condition race over 6 ½ furlongs (1,300m) in a time of 1:23.1 minutes, while Classy Miss won more comfortably by 3 ½ lengths in the Restricted Allowance event over 5 furlongs (1000m) on the round course in a time of 1:01.3 minutes. Coco Chanel was prominent throughout the race as she settled in second position behind Casual Charm (Shane Richardson) going into the half -mile (800m) turn, and although surrendering the lead coming into the lane to Hecandance (Richard Mairs), she battled strongly against the inside rails to come away with the win. Sweet Surprise (Omar Walker) came from far behind to get second place ahead of the tiring Hecandance in the end. Classy Miss (Adore The Gold – Power To Peace) led the field into the lane ahead of Blusie (Anthony Thomas) and Young Boy Eddy (Roger Hewitt), and when asked to go by Dawkins, the bay filly responded beautifully and powered home. Blusie held her position in second place and Young Boy Eddy was third.
Kiaman McGregor continues to make his presence felt
Apprentice Kiaman McGregor continued to make his presence felt this season among the jockeys, as the young rider notched his 37th win for the year after guiding home Axle Rod in an Optional Claiming ($650,000-$600,000) event over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). McGregor got Axle Rod out of the starting gates up and running and assumed the early lead in the seven-horse field. Shortly after, Fly First Class (Christopher Mamdeem) took over at the half-mile and brought the field into the drive. Turning for home on the outside of Fly First Class, Axle Rod changed gear and regained the lead at the furlong (200m) pole and held it to the wire by 1 ½ length. Eye Candy (Reyan Lewis), who chased the leaders for the entire trip, got up for second place ahead of Fly First Class. The winning time was 1:07.2 minutes.
