Nothing Like a Lick of Paint

#DESIGNWEEKJA2019

In one fell swoop, H&L Rapid True Value turned the adage “as exciting as watching paint dry” on its head!

Last Friday the company hosted the ninth event on the Design Week JA 2019 calendar at its Lane Plaza location. Billed as a happy hour (yes, there were copious amounts of food and drink) the event was laid back and chock-full of useful home-decorating tips.

Guests in attendance were given copies of the 2020 Colour Trends of the Islands, and discovered H&L Rapid True Value named EasyCare Sweet Carrot the colour of Design Week.

True Value Manufacturing Senior Learning Consultant — Paint Todd Myers jetted into the island to lend support and give Design Week his stamp of approval. Myers conducted an engaging demonstration that more resembled meeting and getting to know a new friend. In addition to speaking about his childhood, and the most expensive paint job that he ever undertook, Myers taught the gathering how to paint.

Sounds simple enough, but there is indeed an art and science, to painting walls — a process that so many take for granted. Many professional painters in attendance traded stories about customers who cut corners only to have them come in and fix the issue, thus costing more. Pro-tips: don’t cheap out on a proper paint job; ensure that a professional painter does it.

Throughout the event, H&L Rapid True Value sales associates were at the ready to assist customers. Several could not resist purchasing items, and who could blame them? The convergence of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and pro-tips created a purchasing sweet spot.

After Myer’s demonstration, Design Week conceptialiser Novia McDonald-Whyte led a trivia session. H&L Rapid True Value Lane Plaza awarded prizes of home décor accessories, and, for the grand prize of a $25,000 True Value gift card, general manager of e-Channels & Technology Gordon Webster used nifty software to select the winner: PrivySi Limited director Nigel Gordon.
