UTech targets the west
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The University of Technology Jamaica (UTech, Ja), staged its 2019 Open House — Western Campus at Old Hospital Park in Montego Bay on Friday, September 27.
Scores of invited students and teachers from western high schools flocked booths manned by faculty representatives from UTech, Jamaica’s eight colleges.
Welcoming and encouraging prospective students to utilise the day as an opportunity to start their professional career, Hector Wheeler, associate vice-president for advancement, advised them of the many scholastic opportunities that awaited them at the institution. He said, “Today we are showcasing all the courses within the faculties and colleges of UTech, Ja, please visit the booths pertaining to your area/ areas of interest and ensure that you ask all the necessary questions concerning matriculation.” Wheeler likewise implored them to take advantage of the day’s free application process.
Assistant Registrar at the UTech, Ja Western Campus, Antoinette Smith, highlighted that “some of the students in attendance knew what they wanted, while others were still exploring. Nonetheless, we remain hopeful that the interest and demand is there for the courses being offered by UTech, Ja”.
Speaking to attendees, Kerry-Ann White, director, Student Recruitment, reiterated the need for them to complete and submit their prospective contact sheets on the spot. She explained that, “we started UTech, Ja West with two courses and now we have increased our offerings to western Jamaica. Completing your respective forms will enable us to know what other programs we can transfer or bring to Montego Bay, as we continually seek to expand and improve our western campus”. For this academic year two new programmes were introduced to the western campus, the Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and the Diploma in Construction Management. While thanking the schools for supporting Open House 2019, she insisted that students have fun while learning about UTech, Ja, its programmes and their career choices.
