Horsemen have their say for Superstakes
Chairman of SVREL Solomon Sharpe:Let us put it this way, She'sA Maneater tried, tested andproven by name and nature; she isand handicapped with 55.0kg sothey will have to run to beat her.Well, that will be very hard. If youshould go to Caymanasracing.comat the workouts she has beenworking tremendously well; shehas been fantastic in her races, soyou will have to see who will beatthe defending champion. She wonit last year so let us see who willbeat her first.

Horsemen have their say for Superstakes

She’s A Maneater preferred to Supreme Soul

They are at the racetrack everyday and trainers and horsemen do know a thing or two about horses and their performances. Some shared their selections for the 41st running of the $6-million iCOOL Juice Drink Superstakes. The race is run over 10 furlongs (2,000m).

Trainer Rohan Mathie:My preferred choice is She’sA Maneater. She’s the bestlocal horse in training and shehas improved more than shehas declined with years and Ihaven’t seen any other horse thatimproved on her. So, she’s mychoice with everything remainingequal.
Trainer Delroy Spencer:My choice is Supreme Soul.Reason being he is a fresh threeyear-old now coming up. She’s AManeater is the best horse in thecountry, but Supreme Soul is afighter and I think that he will win.Once a horse is a fighter and he isa colt, he will get there.
Trainer Leroy Tomlinson:My choice for winning theSuperstakes goes to She’s AManeater. She is a seasonedcampaigner who has the besttimes over the distance; muchimproved as they are reportedto be I do not think that they canbeat her.
Trainer Colin Blair:Fortunately for She’s AManeater there is no horse thatcan set a pace to cause her to beunfettered. Will In Charge is outso she can go in front, stay behindat whatever pace and still comeout on top. The most importantconsideration at present is howimproved Supreme Soul is. Hehas improved a lot, but he is still ababy, so I think he will develop intobeing a super four-year-old nextyear. That said I think he will beamong the first three finishers inthe Superstakes event on Sunday.
Trainer Ian Parsard:Well for one, I think that theSuperstakes is going to be arace. I think that there is a youngthree-year-old that is coming upin Supreme Soul. He surprisedme when he beat Superluminallast week and he seems to methat he is running to the level ofthe competition and with naturalimprovement, I think he will beproven dangerous. You also haveBigdaddykool who is also a good10 furlongs horse and of courseyou have She’s A Maneater, whois class all over. It is going to be acracking race. Therefore, if I hadto stick my head out, I will have togive the vote to She’s A Maneaterwith the experience in her favour. But I think Supreme Soul is goingto give her a good run.
Trainer Patrick Fong:My firm belief is that I don’tthink that they can beat her [She’sA Maneater]. A horse has tobeat her over this journey beforeI can say otherwise. She is asuper horse and at exercise, shelooks to be in her ackee, that isto say, she looks her super self. She stands out physically in hergallops, even looks as though shehas put on a few pounds. Withthis I expect her to win. Failing todo so it will come as surprising tome even though this is racing.
Trainer Lincoln Lungs:For me, the choice is She’s A Maneater. She’s in much better condition than most and her coat looksmore appropriate for this type of race. Her looks are therefore more in keeping with how an expected topclassperformer should look for such a prestigious occasion. So, for me, based on looks, the choice is She’sA Maneater. She looks to be improving more and more and growing in stature from strength to strength andto me, she should get the better of the field on Superstakes Day.
Owner and Breeder MichaelBernard:I believe that She’s A Maneaterwill win the Superstakes event.Reason being: She is the classhorse. She has proven qualityand has won over the distanceover and over, and she is inmuch better condition than otherrunners in the event, whichincludes Supreme Soul whoI expect to come second andBigdaddykool third. This is what Iam basically predicting to happen.
Physical trainer and therapistGeorge Russell:I like Supreme Soul for theSuperstakes. He has proven tobe one of the best young stayersaround now in Jamaica. He is theTriple Crown winner and doespossess quality, fighting spirit inhim that he does not want to seeanother runner in front of him andhe will give his all even when heis down to his last drop of energy. As long as you are in front of him,he is coming for you. And if youshould check the last time heran, he actually carried the pacehimself and when Superluminalwent in front he found a spiritjust to dig in and when he passedSuperluminal he kicked on ahead. So, to me, he is one of the beststayers in the country right nowand if he is sound, they cannotbeat him coming 10 furlongs.
