#Doha2019: Chanice Porter moves into women’s long jump final, Hickling eliminated
Jamaica’s
Chanice Porter advanced to the final of the women’s long jump at the World
Championships in Doha, Qatar, on Saturday, as teammate Tissanna Hickling failed
to move on.
Porter
jumped 6.57 metres in Group A of the preliminary round to end sixth. She
achieved the mark on her third and final attempt, with the group being won by
Ese Brume of Nigeria with 6.89, second going to Tori Bowe of the United States
of America with 6.77 and third to Alina Rotaru of Romania with 6.72.
Hickling, on
the other hand, finished Group B seventh with a jump of 6.49 metres on her
second attempt.
With only
three athletes from both groups achieving the automatic qualifying mark of 6.75
metres, to complete the final field of 12, the next best times were used, and
Hickling failed to advance with the 16th best jump.
Malaika
Mihambo of Germany won group B with 6.98 metres as Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk of
Ukraine finished second with 6.74 and Abigail Irozuru of Great Britain third in
6.70.
