#Doha2019: Gold for Jamaica in women’s 4×100 metres
Jamaica won
the gold medal in the women’s 4×100 metres at the World Championships in Doha,
Qatar, on Saturday.
The Jamaicans
had two excellent handovers on the first and second legs, but despite faltering
on the third exchange, managed to win by a wide margin.
The
Jamaicans had a good start through Natalliah Whyte, who handed to 100 metres
champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, who delivered a scintillating leg to deliver
to Jonielle Smith in first position.
The hand
over between Smith and anchor Shericka Jackson was not smooth, but Jackson sped
away to win in a world lead of 41.44 seconds with Great Britain finishing
second in a season best of 41.85, with the United States of America also doing
a season best of 42.10.
