Frome on high!

FROME, Westmoreland – The campus and community of Frome Technical High School has been buzzing since last weekend’s heroics of former student athletes Danniel Thomas-Dodd and Rushell Clayton at the 17th IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Thomas-Dodd and Clayton, who both previously represented the western Westmoreland-based school in track and field, were part of the Jamaican team that won 12 medals — three gold, five silver and four bronze — the second-best haul after the 13 won in Berlin, Germany in 2009.

Norman Allen, principal of Frome Technical told the Jamaica Observer West on Tuesday that plans were being made to honour both Thomas-Dodd, who won the silver medal in the shot put, and Clayton, who took the bronze medal in the 400-m hurdles.

Allen said the success of the two former students was celebrated at the school and said they planned to make sure the achievements do not go unnoticed.

“Last year, we established a sports awards ceremony and we will make contact with both young ladies and invite them so we can show our appreciation,” he said of the event set for June next year.

Allen, a former Jamaica Teachers’ Association president who took over the Frome principalship in 2017, said “the success of the ladies have been promoted here and we have seen the benefits already and we have seen a buzz in the school among the students”.

“We are always proud of the achievements of the present and past students of Frome Technical,” he added.
