JASON Lawson is the new president of the Jamaica Classic Car Club (JCCC). He was elected at the club’s annual general meeting (AGM) which took place at Curphey Place in St Andrew, on September 29.

“I was humbled by the nomination and accepted the post to carry on the good work that Shane (Angus) has done,” Lawson told the Jamaica Observer’s weekly Auto magazine.

Angus, who was at the club’s helm for six years, declined to run for personal commitments. He was however, installed the club’s ambassador-at-large.

The JCCC also took the opportunity to laud Angus for his years of service and achievements. Under his guidance, the club has been very visible, with monthly events islandwide as well as forging partnerships which utilise members’ vehicles.

Angus had several major milestones during his tenure. He staged a classic car show at Jamaica Horticultural Society in Hope Pastures, St Andrew, last year. He opened up the club’s membership to Japanese performance classics, a trend taking hold worldwide. On the legislative front, he attempted to lower road and back licence fees for classics; for the latter, he received a 50 per cent reduction for JCCC members.

“I am going to miss the club,” Angus said.

The executive comprises: Naresh Potopsingh, first vice-president; Duane Williams, second vice-president; Michael McFarlane, secretary; Paul Gammon, assistant secretary; Karen Gammon, treasurer; and Nicholas Chang, assistant treasurer.

The JCCC praised its top member Brain Madden, who received the Clubman of the Year award, for his consistent attendance. A special award was given out to Paul MacKay, for his persistence in getting his 1944 Ford GPW (Willys Jeep) registered after having purchased it with no paperwork.

“It can be done. It’s just a long process,” MacKay encouraged fellow JCCC members who might be in a similar situation.
