ANTIGUA’S Kanabis Sound won its 16th sound clash title at the Pain N Sorrow Clash held at the Jamex Sports Bar in Bronx, New York, on September 27.

“The feeling is great. Locking off two big sounds from New York and winning all three rounds was a tremendous feeling,” Deon “Stingaz” Dunning of Kanabis Sound told the Jamaica Observer.

Promoted by Shawn Pipa of Boomerang Promotions, the event was hosted by Jamie from New York-based Young Hawk sound system.

The other sounds which participated in the clash were King Ramsey from Brooklyn, and The Notorious Outlaw from Bronx.

Dunning explained why the sound continues to participate in clashes.

“We compete in clashes because we want to be known as one of the greatest sounds in the business. For us to achieve that, we have to conquer all areas of the music. We also have to be versatile both in the clashing and in juggling arenas. Participating in clashes helps us grow and it sharpens our skills to play and entertain people,” said Dunning.

Kanabis Sound came on the scene 19 years ago. Its other members are Laurance “Jelly Belly” Mason and Glenn “Madd Dawg” Francis.

Earlier this year, the sound finished third in a clash that was held in Guyana.

“We have won a lot of clashes over the years regionally and in the United States,” said Dunning.
